COBA Flooring has recently supplied a substantial quantity of Premier Plus Tiles which have been installed in a variety of locations at the impressive Somerset Mall shopping and entertainment complex. It is one of the largest entrance matting orders that COBA Flooring has secured since introducing its matting division to South Africa in 2010.
Just under 1000 Premier Plus Tiles were specified for use in four busy entrance areas subjected to an average footfall to some 10.1 million visitors per year. The matting was supplied to Somerset Mall via Dan Uys Flooring, who was also the contractor who carried out the installations.
The hugely popular Somerset Mall, which has been developed in three phases since 1993, spans a colossal 76,000m2 and houses all types of retailers, from high-end designers to fashion stores, supermarkets as well as a ten-pin bowling alley and Ster Kinekor ‘8 theatre’ cinema complex. With about 200 retailers at Somerset Mall, there is little wonder that it needs approximately 4200 parking bays to accommodate the huge volume of shoppers.
With so much to see and do, the need for durable ‘high performance’ commercial entrance matting was essential that could withstand the high volumes of regular footfall. Premier Plus Tiles were selected not only for their ability to withstand wear and tear, but also for their dirt-scraping, moisture-wiping benefits essential for interior floor protection and increasing safety underfoot. Dry dust and moisture can both present slip hazards on smooth floors so effective entrance matting plays a huge role in health and safety.

Premier Plus Tiles are a high quality, hard wearing and extremely versatile solution for many entrance areas of all shapes and sizes. The interlocking tiles simply link together to cover any size of floor. Each tile features a 100% recycled PVC base with a high quality needlepunch carpet insert. The tiles can either be installed in recessed matwells (as illustrated in the photos of Somerset Mall) or laid to surface with optional bevelled edging. The tiles can also be easily cut to shape making them suitable for circular or more unusual shaped entrance areas.
Available in Charcoal, each tile measures 30cm x 45cm and is 15mm high.
