About the Distribution Centre
This busy facility is a central distribution hub based in the Midlands belonging to one of the leading UK supermarket giants. It supplies grocery products to stores nationwide. New entrance matting was required for the main site entrance (a covered walkway) used by over 1000 employees on a daily basis.
The Project
Premier Track from COBA Flooring was selected. The interlocking PVC/carpet tile system replaced older matting that had become impregnated with dirt, oil and water which meant it had become less efficient in absorbing moisture and trapping dirt. This had to be addressed because employees then walked onto a smooth polished concrete floor so reducing any potential slip hazard was essential. Another important factor was finding a replacement product that would sit flush within the existing matwell so as not to create any trip hazard, or impede access in any way. This also removed the need for any sub-floor preparation which meant that Maintenance personnel at the distribution centre could install the system themselves, without needing the services of a professional flooring contractor. Easy to install Premier Track proved to be the ideal solution.
The covered entrance area measures approximately 10 sq metres, which required some 100 Premier Track Tiles in total. It took just 5 man-hours to refurbish the entire area and this included removing the old matting materials. The in-house Maintenance team carrying out the installation gave positive feedback about the simplicity of the fitting operation. The system required minimal trimming and even with two circular poles to facilitate, cutting flexible Premier Track to shape was a straight-forward task.
Now the distribution centre has an entrance that not only looks smart, but one that is also helping to safeguard the safety of its employees who use the walkway on a daily basis.
About Premier Track
Premier Track Tiles, manufactured from 80% recycled PVC, feature crush-resistant nylon carpet inserts that effectively remove dirt and moisture from footwear. The heavy-duty interlocking system with a five year guarantee is ideal for high levels of pedestrian traffic, and is suitable for wheeled trolleys and high heeled footwear. Tiles can be removed, cleaned and replaced with ease. Each tile measures 30cm x 45cm and is 16mm high. Colour options include anthracite, brown, grey and blue. It is compliant with Fire Test EN 13501 Euro Classification B(F2)SW and is Slip Tested to Category R10. Furthermore, Premier Track has been load tested to 1,000 kg which means it can withstand supermarket supply trolleys. Custom printed logo mats can also be integrated into the Premier Track design.
