About Thomas Graham
Thomas Graham started originally as an ironmonger’s shop and steel warehouse in Carlisle in 1892, when it was founded by its namesake. Fast forward over a century, and the company today is a thriving industrial supplies business covering Cumbria and Lancashire, employing over 200 people, with its head office in Kingmoor Park, Carlisle and further branches located in Egremont, Kendal and Morecambe.
The company provides services to both trade and end-user customers, supplying industrial products, steel, workwear & PPE, welding and hygiene products, including floor mats.
Thomas Graham are a member of Jangro, the largest network of independent janitorial distributors in the UK and Ireland, supplying a range of entrance mats from COBA Europe. It is through this connection with COBA that they started to look at mats for their own facilities, which included those in the Orthomat® anti-fatigue range.
The Project:
Each of the Thomas Graham branches have manned trade counters and customer service areas, where employees stand for prolonged periods of time. Employees also work in other areas such as goods-in, picking and despatch which require them to be on their feet.
Anti-fatigue mats had not been used in the past which meant that counter staff, as in many similar companies, had to stand on a hard floor surface. Sitting was not a practical alternative, so a solution was required to make standing more comfortable for employees in these areas. The health and wellbeing of the staff is something which is very important to Thomas Graham and discovering the floor mats from COBA was a brilliant solution.
Knowing that COBA was not only a supplier of entrance matting, but also a respected safety matting manufacturer, they sought advice on the best anti-fatigue mats for their environment.
