The Client:

The Advanced Smoke Group is an established name in the smoke control industry with a reputation for innovation. The company has expertise in a range of fields; from the design and installation of bespoke smoke control systems, to the manufacture of associated products such as those in its Fire-rated ductwork, as well as offering a complete maintenance service. Advanced Smoke Group also designs and installs car park ventilation systems.

The Installation

Several years ago, there was a requirement to convert two workshops into one larger facility. However it became apparent that there was a need to segregate the two areas replacing what was once a brick wall, with PVC strip curtains predominantly as thermal insulator for heat-saving reasons. A key reason was that while the heating was on inside the building, the workers to the rear of the facility had the back doors open which was not deemed energy efficient.

Advanced Smoke Group chose the PVC strip curtain kit from COBA Europe’s range. The kits are designed for easy-installation and Advanced Smoke Group’s own maintenance team carried this out, describing the process as “very straight forward”.

“We found COBA Europe very friendly and helpful, and the PVC strip curtain arrived when they said it would. We’re hoping our heating bill will be less this quarter,” commented Ruth Royle, Finance Director – Advanced Smoke Group Limited.

About PVC Strip Curtains

COBA Europe supplies PVC strip curtains in a range of options. These include complete ‘made to measure’ kits; 50m rolls; or replacement strips available by the linear metre with a fitted hanger. PVC strip curtains are manufactured from a low-toxic, cadmium free material, resistant to a wide range of chemicals.

There is also a choice of PVC type to suit the environment in which it is being used. Choose from Standard Clear (extremely good clarity and dimensional tolerances for -15ºC to +50ºC ), Polar (for low temperature/cold room/freezer environments -40ºC to +50ºC), Buffer (ribbed PVC and more durable, so especially beneficial if forklift trucks pass through -15ºC to +50ºC) and Welding (designed specifically for welding bays meeting EN1598 specification -15ºC to +50ºC). There are also Red Marker strips available to highlight the door frame for clear visibility.

PVC strip curtains are especially popular in factory facilities and can be installed for a variety of reasons. They can act as thermal partitions (as needed by Advanced Smoke Group) or used as a barrier for fumes, dust, insects and birds. They can also help to reduce noise levels in loud working environments.
